Trevor Sevigny, LAc., Dipl. Ac. (NCCA)

Personal Statement

Trevor began his professional career as a scientific analyst, from 1995 to 1999. With undergraduate degrees in mathematics and economics, he developed a strong interest in complex systems behavior. During this time, he also trained with and competed against world class athletes in the sport of Olympic-style taekwondo.

First hand experience of acupuncture’s contribution to injury recovery and athletic performance enhancement, combined with his scientific curiosity, drove him to pursue graduate studies at Bastyr University’s School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from 2000-2003. During this time, he took several advanced courses in traditional Chinese exercise and physical medicine, including Die Da (sports medicine and trauma care), Taichi (movement therapy), Tuina (manual therapy), and Qigong (proprioceptive training). He was selected as a teacher’s assistant for several of these courses, as well as for the foundational courses of acupuncture anatomy and physiology.

After Trevor graduated, the Bastyr Center for Natural Health selected him from a national pool of candidates for one of two residency positions. He taught among Bastyr’s clinical faculty, and he built a private practice specializing in sports acupuncture and injury rehabilitation.

On Bastyr’s academic campus, the School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine chose him to assist in a new course designed to explore traditional acupuncture concepts and modern scientific theory in the anatomy laboratory environment. During this time, collaborative research with a mentor at Bastyr culminated in a new didactic course outlining scientific developments related to acupuncture’s mechanism of action. The resulting course was part of Bastyr’s curriculum for several years.

Trevor has practiced with Seattle Acupuncture Associates since completing a fellowship with the group in 2005-2006. At the SAA clinics, he specializes in neuromusculoskeletal rehabilitation and he has continued to work with top level athletes in several sports, including: baseball, hockey, football, swimming, wrestling, Brazilian jiu jitsu, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts. His patients have recovered from injury to compete professionally, win world championships, and set world records.
