Acupuncture for Hip Pain

Acupuncture has shown to be an effective treatment for hip pain, hip arthritis, fractures and hip rheumatism. Many hip bursitis patients respond very well with acupuncture treatment.

Hamstring Injuries

Hamstring strains cover a wide array of symptoms dependent on the degree of the injury. In all cases pain and muscular spasm are present. Whether the injury arises from a low back disorder and subsequent weakening of the muscle or the degree of trauma seeming to override a well toned and developed muscle determines the approach. From the perspective of acupuncture, the injury and the body's compensation are key to recovery. The pain, swelling and reactive guarding that occur are addressed initially with structural tone and balance in the later stages of the treatment.

Hip Arthritis

Osteoarthritis of the hip is a common disorder found in the aging process. Wear and tear and joint erosion lead to inflammation. With the progression of the disease and increased pain the normal range of motion begins to erode and compensatory guarding takes place. Soon the function of the joint is compromised.

Acupuncture is an effective tool to relieve the muscular guarding and inflammation that produce the pain associated with this disorder. Through acupuncture intervention pain control and return to normal function are possible.

Hip Bursitis

Inflammation of the bursa, a fluid filled sac that surrounds the joint and allows for the lubrication of the joint, is commonly treated with acupuncture and its related techniques. Moist heat is often employed along with the needles to facilitate recovery.

Hip Fractures

Acupuncture is an effective tool as a supportive therapy in the recovery of hip fractures by easing compensatory muscular guarding, easing pain by producing naturally occurring opiate substances and decreasing inflammation by causing the adrenal glands to secrete cortisol, your systems innate steroid.

Hip Labral Tear

Labral tears in the hip are tears in connective tissue that forms a lip like structure over the ball and socket of the joint. When this tissue is torn there is an increased tendency for the joint to slip within the joint space. Surgical intervention is needed in many cases to restore the functional integrity of the joint.

Acupuncture can be helpful in minor tears and in the interval prior to surgery for pain control and compensatory muscle guarding patterns.

Hip Pain

Hip pain in general can often be misleading. Pain that is generally associated with the lateral hip is most often due to a low back issue and or traumatic injury to the soft tissue of this region. True articular hip pain is experienced deep to the groin as that is where the joint is located.

Acupuncture is employed to release muscular restriction and reestablish normal muscle proprioception.
